A few weeks ago, I had the incredible opportunity to photograph Kurrypinch, a brand-new Sri Lankan restaurant in Hollywood that’s already making waves in the local food scene. As a commercial food photographer, my goal was to bring their bold flavors and vibrant dishes to life through visually striking imagery. The highlight? My work was recently featured on DailyNews.com, showcasing the artistry behind both the cuisine and the photography process. Bringing Sri Lankan Flavors to Hollywood Sri Lankan cuisine is a sensory experience—rich spices, bold colors, and diverse textures create dishes that are as beautiful as they are flavorful. Kurry Pinch delivers an authentic taste of Sri Lanka, from crispy hoppers to spicy curries and fragrant rice dishes. Capturing these elements in a way that does them justice required a combination of technical skill and creative storytelling. Photography Techniques: HDR & Flash for Food Photography For this shoot, I used a mix of HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography and flash lighting techniques to ensure every dish looked as mouthwatering as it does in person. HDR Photography: Sri Lankan food is full of contrast—deep reds, golden crusts, and bright greens. By blending multiple exposures, I was able to highlight every texture and color while maintaining a natural, balanced look. Flash Techniques: Using off-camera diffused flash, I enhanced the details of each dish without creating harsh shadows or reflections. This method helped bring out the glossy sheen of curries and the crisp textures of fried dishes, making them pop off the screen.
